Survival: A Novel (Ben Bova, 2017)
A Why can't we all get along? book. A group of scientists traveling through space trying to alert any other intelligent life to a burst of deadly gamma waves heading their way discover a planet of advanced, hive-mind robots. The robots argue that only mechanical intelligence lives forever and organic life is doomed to die. (Clearly they’ve transcended maintenance issues.) And to help inevitability along, Agent Smith style, the robots appear to be willing to let the humans die when the wave hit, while the robots themselves will be safely protected. Much discussions of philosophy ensue. A bit slow and talk-y and not particularly accurate as to robots, but a nice addition to "comfort scifi" or "up lit" genres.
