Volcano Week

The Kilauea volcano in Hawaii is capturing attention as lava flows and splatters on the Big Island of Hawaii. This week we will look at real robots that have been used for volcanic research and later in the week we will post a review of the 1997 Dante’s Peak volcano disaster movie with Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton. It featured a robot similar to the 1992 DANTE I and II robots built by Carnegie Mellon and is a teachable moment on locomotion in ground robots, especially the difference between static and dynamic walkers. In the meantime and on a lighter note, check out the review of Artificial Condition, the latest in The MurderBot Diaries.
