Lovable Sidekicks Week

Sidekicks are those supporting characters that loyally support (and sometimes guilt-trip) a main character. They generally aren’t as street smart, attractive, or as socio-economically well-off as the protagonist. The sidekick provides the plot with humor or pathos or both. Hmmm, in science fiction, who could play the sidekick? Cue the robot! The alphas in The Prey of Gods are consummate sidekicks - imagine a South Africa in which everyone but the very poorest person had a legged robot to serve as a smartphone, backpack, minion, and confidante. We’ll start Lovable Sidekicks Week with my review below then explore the history of robot sidekicks and how robots are serving as sidekicks for humans-- and other robots!-- in real life.
